Alfie And Archie s Dog Biscuits

1.Preheat oven to 350.ightly oil a cookie sheet. Combine flour, dry milk, salt, garlic powder and sugar. Cut in meat drippings until mixture resembles corn meal. Mix in egg. Add enough water so that mixture forms a ball. Using your fingers, pat out dough onto cookie sheet to half inch thick. Cut with cookie cutter or knife and remove scraps. Scraps can be formed again and baked.
2.Bake 25-30 minutes.Remove from tray and cool on rack.

American Country Biscuits

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Combine all the dry ingredients in a large bowl.Cut the butter into small bits and stir them into the dry ingredients, using your finger tips to make sure its well combined.(Note:I used a pastry cutter.
worked just as well as my fingers and lot less messy.) Next,slowly add the milk to the mixture while stirring continually. nce the milk has been added, knead the dough for one minute until smooth.
Roll the dough out to quarter inch thickness. Cut into squares and place on a dry cookie sheet.
Place the cookie sheet on the middle shelf.Bake for 12 minutes and feel secure in knowing that you have passed on a small piece of America's heritage on to your children.

Angel Biscuits (no Rising Necessary)

Dissolve yeast in water.
Into a bowl, sift flour with other dry ingredients.
Cut in shortening, add buttermilk, then add yeast mixture.
Stir until all flour is dampened.
Knead on floured board a minute, roll to desired thickness, and cut with a biscuit cutter.
Bake at 400 degrees about 12 minutes.
Dough may be kept refrigerated and used about a week.

Annie Mae Jones Buttermilk Biscuits

1.Preheat oven to 450'F.
2.Sift flour, salt, soda, and baking powder into mixing bowl.
Cut in shortening, using 2 knives, a pastry cutteror your hands dusted with flour.
Add sufficient buttermilk to make a soft dough.
Knead lightly and turn out onto a lightly floured board.
Roll out to 1/2" thickness and cut with biscuit cutter into rounds.
Place rounds not touching - for crisper biscuits - or close together - for softer biscuits - on ungreased baking sheet.
Brush with melted butter if desired and bake in preheated oven 12-15 minutes, or until firm and lightly browned.

Anzac Biscuits (cookies)

Mix flour, rolled oats, coconut and sugar together in bowl.
Melt butter over low heat with Golden syrup.
When this is melted add the bicarb soda and stir until it froths up.
As soon as this happens add it to the dry ingredient Put on baking tray in one teaspoon quantities and flatten lightly.
Prick with a fork.
Leave plenty of space between as these do spread quote a bit.
Bake in a very slow oven as they burn easily.

* More Baking Soda may be added if the starter if very sour. Place flour in bowl, add starter in a well, then add melted shortening and dry ingredients. Mix lightly and turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead until the consistency of bread dough, or of a satiny finish. Pat or roll out dough to 1/2 inch thickness, cut and put on a greased pan. Coat all sides of biscuits with melted butter. Let rise over boiling water for 1/2 hour. Bake at 425 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes.

Baking Powder Biscuits (crocker)

Heat oven to 450F. Cut shortening into flour, sugar, baking powder and salt with pastry blender until mixture resemble fine crumbs. Stir in milk until dough leaves side of bowl (dough will be soft and sticky).
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Knead lightly ) times. Roll or pat 1/2 inch thick.
Cut with floured 2 1/2-inch round cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart for crusty sides, touching' for soft sides. Bake until golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. 1 dozen biscuits;155 calories per biscuit.
Blue Cheese Biscuits: Add 3 tb crumbled blue cheese and 1/2 ts Italian seasoning with the flour.
Buttermilk Biscuits: Decrease baking powder to 2 teaspoons and add 1/4 ts baking soda with the salt. Substitute buttermilk for the milk.
(If buttermilk is thick, it may be necessary to add slightly more than 3/c cup. ) Cornmeal Biscuits: Substitute 1/2 cup cornmeal for 1/2 cup of the flour. Sprinkle cornmeal over biscuits before baking.
Drop Biscuits: Increase milk to 1 cup. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet.
Herb Biscuits: Add 3/g ts dried dill weed or rosemary leaves, crushed, with the salt. *If using self rising flour, omit baking powder and salt.

Baking Powder Biscuits (diabetic)

Mix flour, baking powder, and salt together. Cut in the shortening until it is evenly mixed with the dry ingredients. Then ADD, Milk, mixing well.
Then Knead for a a 1/2 minute and roll out to about 1-1/2 inch in thickness. Cut with a Biscuit cutter.
Place the biscuits 1-1/2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet. The BRUSH with the Milk and BAKE at 450F oven degrees 10-12 minutes One biscuit may be Exchanged for: 1 bread exchange or 1 fat exchange.

Baking Powder Biscuits (roberts)

COMBINE FLOUR, baking powder, salt and butter in a mixer and mix until crumbly. Add the buttermilk and mix until the dough holds together. Do not over-mix. Turn out on a floured surface and roll the dough out to a 3/4-inch thickness. Cut into rounds or squares.
Place fairly close together on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake in preheated 450F oven for 12 to 15 minutes.

Combine the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Cut in the margarine with a fork or pastry blender. Add the milk. Stir to make a soft dough. Roll out on a lightly floured surface until 1/2 inch thick.
Cut into biscuit shapes. (Or divide dough in 12 balls, roll in your hands and pat lightly to flatten.) Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 425 F for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.

Basic Biscuits p Cooking Class

HEAT THE OVEN TO 450F.
Sift the flour with the baking powder, salt and baking soda. Cut in the vegetable shortening until mixture resembles bread crumbs. Stir in the buttermilk with a wooden spoon until just blended.
Turn the mixture onto a floured surface, and knead 10 times. Pat the dough into a rectangle 1/2-inch thick. Cut with a 3-inch cutter, and place biscuits close together on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in the center of the oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve immediately. Makes about 20.
Biscuits can be made a day in advance and covered tightly in aluminum foil. Reheat in a 300F oven for 10 minutes.

Beaten Biscuits

Mix the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl or in a food processor fitted with a metal blade. Add the shortening and cut in or process until the mixture is the consistency of coarse meal. Pour in the milk and stir or process just until the dough holds together. If it is dry or crumbly, add more milk. If it is too wet, add more flour. Knead briefly in the food processor, then turn out onto a floured board or beat 1,001 times with a rolling pin. when it's ready, the dough should "snap" when you hit it. Fold the dough in half. Roll out the folded dough until it is 1/2 inch thick. Cut with a 1-1/4-inch biscuit cutter into small rounds. Prick each round with a fork, making two parallel sets of holes in the biscuit. keep rolling out the dough, folding before cutting, until all the scraps are gone and you have made about 100 biscuits. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place the biscuits on a lightly greased pan. Bake for 30 minutes, until crisp, but not browned. They should open easily when split with a fork. They will keep for weeks tightly covered in a tin or in the freezer. Split in two before serving.

Beer Biscuits

Preheat Oven to 450 degrees F.
Sift dry ingredients together.
Cut in shortening until it has cornmeal consistanch.
Stir in beer, knead lightly, roll out to 1/2-inch thickness.
Bake 10 - 12 minutes or until golden brown.
Makes 12 to 15 biscuits.

Biscuit Short Cake

Sift flour, measure, sift with salt, sugar, and baking-powder. Cut in shortening and 1 tablespoon butter with 2 spatulas. Add milk. Mix lightly. Turn onto lightly floured board. Knead gently. Pat in sheet 1/4 inch thick. Cut with floured cutter. Spread 1/2 the biscuits with butter. Place an unbuttered biscuit over a buttered biscuit. Place on baking sheet. Bake in hot oven (450 F) 15 minutes. Cool. Place crushed sweetened berries between two biscuits. Cover liberally with berries. Serve with or without whipped cream. 6 servings.

Biscuit Topped Italian Casserole

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease 12X8-inch (2-qt) baking dish. In large skillet, brown ground beef and onion; drain. Stir in water, pepper, tomato sauce and tomato paste; simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in vegetables and 1 1/2 cups of the cheese. Spoon mixture into greased baking dish. Seperate dough into 10 biscuits. Separate each biscuit into 2 layers. Place biscuits near oter edge of hot meat mixture, overlapping slightly. Sprinkle remaining cheese in center and around edge. Gently brush biscuits with margarine, sprinkle with oregano. Bake for 22-27 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.

Biscuit Tortoni

1.Add the sugar to the softly beaten cream a little at a time.
Beat well to incorporate sugar.
Mix in the amaretto or wine and all but 1 tbs.
of the almonds.
Fold in the beaten egg white.
2.Using a pastry bag, pipe the cream mixture into biscuit cups or custard cups.
Sprinkle reserved ground almonds on top.
Freeze until firm, about 3 hours.
Remove from freezer about 15 minutes before serving to allow to soften slightly.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a big bowl mix the biscuit mix, onions, eggs, milk and about 1/2 cup of the cheese. Put the dough into a 9x13 inch baking pan and smooth it down. You will have to flour your hand or spatula to do this. Sprinkle the rest of the cheese over the top and then use the spatula or knife to score the dough into square biscuits. Cut all the way to the pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F. for 40 to 45 minutes. When they are done a wooden toothpick stuck into the dough will come out clean.
NOTES: * Some not-so-plain biscuits -- This recipe is from Bob Clover of Sausalito, California and was Yield: 24-30 biscuits.
* When you take them out of the oven, flip the pan upside down over a rack to get the biscuits out, then flip the rack over to get everything back right side up again.
* This is good if you are having a lot of company or want a lot of leftovers.: Time: 20 minutes preparation, 45 minutes cooking

Brigitte s Chicken and Biscuit Pie

1.Heat oven to 425F.
Saute onions and pepper in oil until tender.
Add undiluted soup, milk, chicken and vegetables.
Mix well.
2.Turn into a 9 inch pie plate.
Top with the biscuits and bake for about 15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the chicken is bubbling.
